Who’s who: Sonny – The 2018 Unlimited Trainee

My name is Sonny and I am the new Unlimited trainee, based at Artsadmin! I’m so happy to be working with so many creative people and cannot wait to see how this journey unfolds.

It’s very early days and I’m getting to know so many faces – including, of course, my favourite, Simba (the office dog) – but already I am learning a ton of information in regards to my role, my colleagues and everything to do with Unlimited.  My diary is full with meetings, a trip to Cardiff (to view one of our artist’s R&D showing) and also the Unlimited Partners meeting at the British Council. All these events are already showing me that my new job will definitely include variety and a lot of fun, as anything to do with art is right up my street.

Getting the chance to now work on the other side of art is an amazing opportunity to learn how to help other artists reach their full potential, as well as widening my own skillsets in producing.

I am also very lucky to have come at an exciting time as we have just announced the artists shortlisted for our new round of Emerging Artist and R&D Awards. Well done to all who applied! I cannot wait to start working with these artists as they join our cohort.

I come from a varied/random (you choose) background, having studied Psychology at university, then worked in NHS admin for numerous of years, all whilst pursuing my passion as a dancer/artist. I love creating work using dance (West African and Caribbean styles) and spoken word to draw on subjects of importance to me in regards to Race, stuttering and the psychology of relationships. I want to continue working on my craft and I believe being at Unlimited will help and push me in the right direction.

I think that’s enough from me and I’m sure I’ll be updating you all too soon.
