Happy New Year from Team Unlimited! January is often a time for making drastic changes and big resolutions, however it should also be time to reflect on what’s past; what went well and what could have been improved. With this in mind, we wanted to share our recent case study into the partnership working of Shape Arts and Artsadmin who co-deliver Unlimited.
First some context, Unlimited was forged at the forefront of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, commissioning 29 new pieces of work by deaf and disabled artists from the UK and putting them on an international stage.
Shape Arts and Artsadmin formed a cohesive partnership and gained the tender to deliver another three years of Unlimited II from 2014-16 under the leadership of Tony Heaton (Chief Executive, Shape Arts), Manick Govinda (Head of Artists’ advisory Services, Artsadmin) and Jo Verrent (Senior Producer). In 2016, Arts Council England extended the Unlimited commissions programme until 2020, continuing to offer disabled artists funds and support to develop, produce and show ambitious work.
Shortly before we entered 2017 and fired the starting gun on Unlimited III, Shape and Artsadmin discussed their partnership with Dawn Langley at Alchemy Research & Consultancy. The findings are available for you to download and read here, we are going to reflect and carry them forward into achieving even greater ambitions in 2017.
It’s going to be a busy twelve months with the launch of our commissions at the end of March; watching work by disabled artists at the Edinburgh Fringe; the fruition of the outdoor work we are commissioning with Northern Festivals Network from Caroline Bowditch and Aidan Moesby; seeing the impact of our new dedicated emerging artist and international strands; arming Unlimited Allies with even more tools to embed change in/from their organisations; and working closely with all our funders and partners to keep pushing, challenging and changing the cultural sector into one that is more equitable for all.
